25 Things

A little birdie who also happens to be one of my May sponsors (Ahem. Lindsay is her name.) tagged me in one of those "25 things" memes that is circulating again. Because I was in desperate need of some Google Reader purging over the weekend, and I did that, only then did I see that she tagged me days ago. Sorry, Lindsay, but better late than never, right?

So, in case you care, here are 25 random things about me you may or may not know. I am not thinking too much about these. Just going to type and hope for the best. Expect random.

Ready? Go!

1. It doesn't take much for me to like a blog. If it's got a pretty layout, the person posts pictures, and posts occasional recipes or something, I copy their address, and paste it into my Google Reader.

2. I help out with children's church at our church. I've been doing it for almost 3 years now. I don't feel like I am the best teacher. In fact, I don't even like teaching. It makes me really nervous.

3. I have 2 half-brothers and a foster brother. My mom was married prior to marrying my daddio and having me, and had my 2 brothers. When I was younger, my parents did a lot of foster care, and Eugene was our last foster babe. He was adopted by his aunt, but still visits often. He will always be my brother.

4. We are doing really well with paying off debt. I mean, really well, but when it comes to our budget, we are going over so often…and really…it's mostly my fault. May was awful. We had so much extra income that we didn't expect, and I did so much random spending. I plan to make up for it in June in a big way. I need to behave. Sorry, husband.

5. I started a new bible study on being a Proverbs 31 woman. I am excited about it, and already inspired (to be that rare woman), and thankful (to have my amazing hubby).

6. Weekly, I have a debate with myself on staying at the pharmacy. Weekly.

7. I change the wallpapers on my phone all the time. Are you surprised? Look at how often I change my blog layout. (Although, I've had this one for a whole month! That's huge!)

8. I have had Kari Jobe's Where I Find You album on repeat in my car, on the computer, on my phone, for weeks. It's such a great album.

9. I am trying to sell my 12-string Takamine acoustic guitar. Do you or anyone you know want it? Yes, I once knew how to play guitar…only a little bit. I haven't attempted to play a guitar in over a year. The worship leader at our church taught me a good bit at my last youth retreat back in 2004. We sat for hours one Saturday afternoon and played. Now? I don't know that I could play anything.

10. I mentioned before, Jarrod and I are going to Creation for a few days this summer. Creation is always so much fun. My mom has taken me since I was about 4. (I recall a photo of me, long, crimped, bright blonde hair, in a tent, playing Barbies.) So, it's been a summer "thing" for a long, long time. This year, I'm most excited to see Switchfoot. I haven't seen them in years. Last I saw them, I met Jon Foreman. True story. If I could find the picture, I'd prove it.

11. My 2 textbooks for my new class came over the weekend. My next class is Overview of Substance Abuse. I am intrigued by all of this stuff, but honestly, don't think I will ever use my degree. I just like learning about how we tick, as humans.

12. I sell Scentsy, but sometimes (not too often, actually), I miss having flamed candles in our house. We have zero. I chucked 'em all when I started selling Scentsy in 2011.

13. I look forward to Sundays for 2 reasons: First, church. I love going to church. Second, the Sunday paper. Nerd warning: I love to come home from church (or later that evening do this), sift through the paper, note all of the sales going on, and cut coupons.

14. Jarrod jokes about this, and I think a part of him believes it's true, but it's not: When we first met, he had my dream car...a silver Mitsubishi Eclipse. I always wanted a silver Eclipse. He thinks that was one of the reasons I agreed to date him. Not true. That car still parks in front of our house today.

15. Sometimes, when Sammy is barking like crazy, annoying me, I say, "Get over yourself." I have NO IDEA what that's supposed to mean, but it feels good to say it.

16. I used to write Backstreet Boys fanfic. I had a website. It was called fanfic.files. With the dot in between. True story.

17. My mom and I have 100 mutual friends on Facebook. Facebook is informative like that.

18. While in the youth group at church, I went on 2 missions trips - one to Michigan, and the other to Oaxaca, Mexico, where I had my picture taken with a bull, and rode on a roller coaster at a carnival THAT HAD NO GUARD RAILS. I thought I was going to die. Also, fun story: The Pepsi jersey I'm wearing in the photo below? While walking to an internet cafe, a random civilian yelled, "Pepsiiiii! Pepsi, come back! Pepsi, I like you! Muy bonita, Pepsi!" My friends find this story humorous. Maybe you will, too. Or maybe not. ;)

19. The day I had my senior photos taken, I had a band-aid on my arm from having a mole removed (1 of 3). See? Also: Hello, first digital camera quality.

20. I used to think this was the coolest thing ever on my Nokia phone circa 2003-2004. Did you have these?

21. Usually, when books are popular, and I try them, I end up not liking them. See: Bloom and Fifty Shades of Grey. I did end up liking The Hunger Games, but stopped at book 1. I lie, I started 4 chapters of book 2, but it's still on my Kindle, and I don't have the biggest desire to pick it up. I was content with how the first book ended, honestly.

22. I'm 5'4".

23. Most nights, Jarrod gives Ethan his bath, either because I'm working, or just because it's kind of become his "thing." But when I give Ethan his bath, I let him play, and I sit on the toilet (with the lid down!), and snip my split ends away.

24. Every single day, I think about how desperately I wish I LOVED working out, because I really want to be able to be that girl who loves it and wants to do it every single day…or heck, even 3 times a week, at this point. I WANT to love working out…but…I just don't want to fit it into my day, most of the time. I wish I did. I need to.

25. Last week was my boss's birthday. We are 10 years apart. I told him, "Gosh, you're almost 40," but I don't really think of myself as almost 30. I sort of am, though. When I think of myself that way (as almost turning 30), I am in denial. I feel like I'm still 21. You know, just with responsibilities and such.

Well, that was fun. :)

Memorial Day

Happy Memorial Day!

As an American, as someone with every day freedoms, but especially as an Army wife, all I'll say is: Remember that this day sure is great for picnics, games, food, and socializing, yes...but without the men and women who gave up their all - literally - for that freedom you and I take advantage of so often, this day wouldn't even be such a big deal. Remember them today and always.

Yesterday, my parents had a little get-together. Unfortunately, Jarrod was working all weekend, so, he's not in any of these photos, but here's what our day looked like:
